Sheet Metal Mechanics

Sheet metal workers perform both construction-related work and mass production of sheet metal products in manufacturing. Sheet metal workers make, install, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning duct systems; roofs; siding; and other products made from metal sheets. They must have mechanical and mathematical aptitude and good reading skills. Good eye-hand coordination, accurate perception of spaces and forms, and manual dexterity also are important.

Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Study plans and specifications to determine the kind and quantity of materials needed.
  2. Measure, cut, bend, shape, and fasten pieces of sheet metal to make custom products.
  3. Program and operate computerized metalworking equipment.
  4. Cut, drill, and form parts with computer-controlled lasers, shears and brakes.
  5. Must follow proper safety practices and be in good physical condition.

Sheet Metal Fabricators & Welders

A typical welder/fabricator position requires four years of welding experience; or completion of an accredited two year welder’s training program and two years of welding experience; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education. Possession of a current driver’s license or state-issued ID is required. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Operates iron worker, power shears, grinders, metal forming equipment and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.
  2. Analyzes plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments.
  3. Recommends supplies and materials to be ordered.
  4. Knowledge of welding techniques, (Electric Arc, MIG and TIG), tools and equipment.
  5. Basic fabrication and lay out skills.

Sheet Metal Foremen

A sheet metal foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in the fabrication and installation of sheet metal products and equipment. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Identifies the type and quantity of materials needed for projects according to plans and specifications.
  2. Ensures construction schedules are met according to capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
  3. Responsible for maintaining time records, coordinating schedules and resolving any related problems.
  4. Ensure workers follow company policies and safety regulations.

Industrial Maintenance

A maintenance worker performs an extensive range of general maintenance and repairs of faculties, buildings, and equipment. They execute work within established procedures and processes under both verbal and written instruction.  General maintenance and repair workers often carry out many different tasks at any number of locations, both indoor and outdoor, throughout the day. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Painting or repairing windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  2. Operating cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  3. Repairing and cleaning structures such as showers, floors, sinks, walls and carpets.
  4. Repairing door hinges, cleaning plugged key slots, changing filters on ventilation, heating, and air conditioning units.
  5. Moving and assisting in transportation of furniture and equipment.
  6. Installation of equipment guards.
  7. Cleaning, patching and repairing roofs and roof related items.

Draftsmen

The draftsman/CAD operator position requires the ability to create visual plans (blueprints) for the installation of air distribution systems in large commercial and industrial buildings. These plans provide sheet metal workers with information about the dimensions and materials necessary for a project. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Consult with project managers and other trades to obtain the technical details for drawings.
  2. Responsible for coordinating the air distribution system with plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems.
  3. Prepare drawings using computer-aided design and drafting systems so they may be viewed and printed by all members of a construction team.

Helpers

The helper is one of the most valuable positions here at Delta Metals. Get hands-on experience and learn the skills needed to advance in the trade. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Must be reliable.
  2. Must be a hard worker.
  3. Must be willing to learn.
  4. Physically able to bend, lift and pick up materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  5. Not afraid of heights or working from ladders.
  6. Listens and takes directions well.

Roofers

A roofer must have a minimum of three years of commercial roofing experience (flat and steep) and have a valid driver’s license. Roofers investigate and repair leaks on different types of roofing (BUR, metal, tile, single ply, shingle, etc.). A roofer must be able to lift 50+ lbs. and not be afraid of heights. Requirements for this position include but not limited to:

  1. Reviews project plans and blueprints; estimates time, material, equipment and supplies needed; ensures work areas are properly maintained.
  2. Removes all types of roof systems.
  3. Installs low sloped and steep slope roof systems including, metal, TPO, BUR, modified bitumen, and EPDM.
  4. Performs work in accordance with job specifications and safety guidelines.
  5. Maintains professional interaction with customers.
  6. Completes all jobs including leak calls, re-roofs and new roofing.

Roofing Foremen

The roofing foreman reviews project plans; estimates time, material, equipment and supplies needed; develops schedules and crew assignments; inspects work areas to insure job completion; evaluates staff performance; completes time sheets, accident reports, and work orders; monitors inventories; ensures work areas are properly maintained. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. Removes all types of roof systems.
  2. Installs low sloped and steep slope roof systems including, metal, TPO, BUR, modified bitumen, and EPDM.
  3. Performs work in accordance with specifications and safety guidelines.
  4. Maintains professional interaction with customers.
  5. Performs crew training meetings.
  6. Understands warranties and warranty work.
  7. Completes all jobs including leak calls, re-roofs and new roofing.
  8. Measures and draws any needed roof repairs and obtains an appropriate time estimation of the length of the job.
  9. Manage roofing crews of varying sizes.
  10. Manage work flow, materials and equipment needs.
